Omega-3 Fats During Pregnancy Provide an Alternative to Anti-Depressant Drugs
(NaturalNews) The demands on a woman's body
during pregnancy often leave her feeling depleted,
physically and emotionally. Depression is common
among pregnant women.
Concerns have
been raised
about possible harm from antidepressants which
might affect both mother and child. Mothers-to-be and
their health care providers often look for other choices
than pharmaceuticals.
Researchers at China Medical University Hospital in
Taiwan noted a possible reason why many women
experience depression during pregnancy, reports
Reuters Health

Depression is often associated with lower
levels of Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids
(PUFAs).

Omega Fatty Acids and Depression
People who do not get enough omega-3 fatty acids or
do not maintain a healthy balance of omega-3 to
omega-6 fatty acids in their diet may be at an
increased risk for depression. The omega-3 fatty
acids are important components of nerve cell
membranes. They help nerve cells communicate with
each other, which is an essential step in maintaining
good mental health. In particular, DHA is involved in a
variety of nerve cell processes.
Levels of omega-3 fatty acids were found to be
measurably low and the ratio of omega-6 to omega-3
fatty acids were particularly high in a clinical study of
patients hospitalized for depression.

Vitamin D May Ease Depression
Vitamin D supplementation, shown in recent
studies to help lower risk of certain cancers, multiple
sclerosis, arthritis, and other conditions, may also
relieve depression, according to new research.
Canadian researchers say the benefit of
supplementation may come in creating stores of this
vital vitamin in the bloodstream to carry people
through the dreary months of winter, when a lack of
sunlight may lead to or worsen mood
disorders,

The Fatty acids in the Omega 3 DHA and EPA are
"essential" fatty acids because the body
cannot manufacture them and we must obtain them
through our diet.
They come from deep cold water fish that are
caught in the wild. The fish oil is processed in Norway
utilizing high vacuum Molecular Distillation. This
processing technique guarantees the production of
high purity EPA/DHA Omega-3 Fish Oils
and minimizes the presence of impurities. It is tested
to be free of potentially harmful levels of contaminants
(i.e. mercury, heavy metals, PCB's, dioxins, and other
contaminants).
The Homefirst Omega 3 supplement has a
special enteric-coated softgel which is utilized to
deliver Molecularly Distilled Omega 3 Fish Oil. This
softgel protects the contents of the capsule from
stomach acid by preventing gastric juices from
dissolving the softgel in the stomach. This allows
people to enjoy the benefits of Omega 3 Fish Oil
without having the fish oil taste . Those who
experience nausea or reflux from other fish oils
should find this enteric coated, odor controlled softgel
easier to digest. The enteric-coated softgel will then
release the Omega 3 fish oil in the alkaline
environment beyond the stomach.
