Peace

The newsletter article we sent last week, confessing that the MT team is not perfect got a lot of feedback. You said it was inspiring and awesome, and some commented they were glad not to be alone. (Lots of you also sent suggestions for my gmail problem - thank you for those).

One person said: "I really need help. I have tried so many things but can't seem to achieve any peace." Listener, I have two thoughts for you. One, if you know you have a problem, you are far better off than many people. They think that multi-tasking is normal, that being distracted can't be helped and that interruptions are 'just the way it is'. You know there are solutions - some of which we've shared last week and some of which are in our podcasts.

The other thought I had was the title of one of my favorite books. It's called 'Always, We Begin Again' and it's about the rule of St Benedict. He wrote the rule as a set of guidelines for monasteries in the first century. He was, way before we existed, a Manager Tools manager - he says that growth and retention are the signs of a successful Abbot.

The book, the Rule and St Benedict are interesting, if you're into such things. But that phrase, 'Always, We Begin Again' is one that I love. It reminds me that no matter what state I've got myself into - I can begin again. I can take a deep breath and turn off my email ping. I can put the phone on mute. I can take the time to do all the things which I KNOW improve my productivity, and which I've forgotten since the last time I reminded myself.

When I wrote last week's newsletter article, I knew I wasn't helping myself. But in five minutes reflection, I also knew what had gone wrong, and I could begin again. Reclaim your focus. What is your priority? Do that. That is the one way to peace.
