Consistency
And O3s
Every
week we post a question on our Facebook page (it's at www.facebook.com/ManagerTools
if you'd like to participate). A couple of weeks ago, we asked: what
percentage of your O3's do you hold when they are scheduled each week?
If
you've been to a conference, you'll know that Mark and Wendii's O3 is
Tuesday at 2pm – but we hold it then less than 25% of the
time. We expected others' experience to be similar.
Those
two pieces of information together teach us something important
– no matter what your profession, no matter the complexities
of your role, your team, your industry or your company, O3's can be
scheduled, regular, and rarely missed.
There
was one other telling response to our question. Someone answered: "I've
never had a manager hold more than one in a row". Consistency is
important. If you say you're going to hold one on ones, hold them. Hold
yourself to a standard which says, "I am going to put in the effort to
get more out of my team, because I deserve it and they do too".
Somewhere,
someone is facing the same problems with scheduling that you are, and
finding a solution. Come to forums and we'll help you find a solution
too.
Something
To Help
This
week we've added two things to our website to help you get more out of
Manager Tools.
On this
page, you can find all
the forms and other collateral that's mentioned in the various podcasts
and which doesn't require a Licence to download. Things like the email
for sending out when you announce One on Ones, the sample resume and a
Cornell Note-taking template are there, as well as 12 other forms.
Also on
this page is a Manager Tools glossary. We often get questions like
'what's a direct?' and 'what is this high D you speak of?', and this
glossary addresses those questions. We hope that it will allow
newcomers to get up to speed fast. For those of you who have been with
us a while, and who kindly answer these types of questions on the
forums, we hope this is a resource you'll use too.
