The Olympics always tug at my heart strings - my daughters and I laugh and cry together as we watch the stories and results unfold. Including: Michael Phelp's triumph and close relationship with his mom; the disappointing injury of our Indiana gymnast, Samantha; the smiles of those cute beach volleyball players....
However, it is Dara Torres that has truly awed me. The 41 year old 5 time Olympic swimmer has truly mastered long term performance in spite of all the 'stuff' of her life. That's what I am going for - she is a great inspiration.
While her accomplishment is athletic and mine is work-related I believe the process is the same.
The timing of the Olympics, 3/4 through the year, cause me to pause and reexamine my intentions and goals. Am I on track, have I let somethings slip?
I am inspired to step it up a bit. How about you?
I find Spiral Impact defines a process to keep moving toward the Gold. I see each of the following elements crucial for long term performance. Is there an area you can sharpen up your focus?
Focused Energy - Centering is crucial, so is rest; when you find yourself down don't fight it, take a break. Then, get your body into action to get your energy flowing! Olympians are focused centered people; they also know downtime is as important as action!
Support- Ask for and receive support; Who is your support? Olympians all have coaches, mentors, and fans! Dara has an amazing amount of support.
Intention - Do you 'own' your intention, are you committed? If you're struggling perhaps you need to re-evaluate your commitment to it. Be sure it is not someone else's intention for you. Olympians are clear on the goal and the intended path to achieve it.
Knowledge - What questions do you have to help you move forward? Ask the questions! Olympians research ways to perform better - always on the quest for the extra edge! Go for the Gold in your life! Send me an update.

Helping People Work Together P.S. What about me? I've achieved some gold and adjusted other intentions. One big achievement for me is audio recording my book (see below). I am also on target with other internal business goals. I've also adjusted. I haven't written supplements to Spiral Impact for specific groups yet. But, I have taken on a role with Butler University Business School as an Executive in Residence Career Mentor. I am also partnering with Susan Woods to create a year long practicum for developing and retaining executive talent.
