"I've always done it this way and it works." "This is the 'right' way."
These thoughts on the aikido mat usually get corrected fast and hard. The minute I think I know the 'right' way, a sudden pop in the face reminds me I have more to learn. I get a big dose of humbleness.
The beauty of martial arts practice is the instantaneous obvious feedback. My practice partners don't have to sell or convince me of a better way - I just get popped in the face or stopped in my tracks!
In the work world getting 'popped in the face' usually manifests as high turnover, disenchanted co-workers, loss in market position, loss in profits to name just a few.
The expert mind is often blind to learning.
Once you reach a level of competency it becomes difficult to be open to new possibilities. The expert or quasi-expert mind already thinks it knows everything. How do we embrace our knowledge and still learn? Spiral Impact helps:
Knowledge - turn your statements into questions, 'what if?' Focused Energy - true center is a way of being which is open to possibilities. Intention - do you want to be 'right' or grow? Support - seek out other people or experiences that get you out of your norm, stretch yourself!
With energy!
