So sorry I'm a little late at getting eWing out this month.
For the last few weeks - although it seems longer - we have been preparing for the Audubon Annual Benefit ... the Trail Mixer ... which was held this past Saturday.
Thanks to everyone that came out and and celebrated the ten-year anniversary of Audubon's Environmental Education Center. I met (and made) so
many new friends and really appreciate your support.
It was truly a great evening, but what I'm most excited about was that we reached our goal of raising enough money to replace our education department's 15-year-old inflatable whale.
Our inflatable whale program is one of Audubon's most popular - or should I say biggest - school programs. The whale is 70-feet long! It inflates inside a school cafeteria or gymnasium and students have the opportunity participate in the program while INSIDE the whale. It is a very cool program. Here are some pictures of the whale below.

With all the wear and tear 15 years can bring to a whale, it was time to get a replacement. Talk about inflation ... a new whale now costs $10,000! But thanks to the generosity of our Trail Mixer guests, we were able to raise $10,950 in just ten minutes! It was truly miraculous and we are so grateful for everyone's support.
After I catch up on my lost sleep, I promise I'll be back on schedule with eWing next month. In the meantime, click on the picture below to see a three-minute video celebrating the
Education Center that I presented during the event.
And, if you didn't make it to the Trail Mixer, be sure to stop by and celebrate at the Center's Birthday Party on Saturday, July 10th! Hope to see you there.
Good birding, * may require QuickTime to view Jeff

Focus on Feeders: Maintaining a Healthy Summer Environment for Our Feathered Friends.
It is relatively easy to attract birds to your yard. Provide them with appropriate foods. Use a feeder they can easily access. Place it in a habitat favorable to
their safety, and birds will flock to your property.
But in the heat and humidity of summer, mold can grow in damp or wet birdseed mixtures. Diseases can spread to birds as a result of crowded and unclean feeders. It is very important to clean your feeders on a regular basis and store seed in airtight containers. For more information on maintaining a healthy bird feeding area, stop by an Audubon Nature Shop or click here for tips from Mass Audubon.

One of the most depressing aspects of the Gulf of Mexico oil leak is the
idea that we've got no
choice but to rely on offshore drilling and the stomach-turning dangers
it
carries.
If you're tired of dead
sea
turtles, oil-coated marshlands, and destroyed fisheries, click here to learn about ten things we can do to kick this dangerous habit._____________________________________________________________________________ |
