"Hot Topics"
Topic #3:
Bringing It All Together: Leveraging Data to Optimize Distribution Operations
(in Salon III)
Presented by
Bill Rambo
Peak Measure
Spokane, Washington
Electric utilities have used systems like SCADA and CIS for decades to assist their operations. Until recently, these systems were stand-alone and weren't easily connected. Today, AMI, cost effective communications, low-cost sensors, and standards for integration are creating a powerful platform for visualizing and analyzing distribution operations. Bill Rambo will provide examples of how utilities are leveraging data from different systems, including SCADA, AMI/MDM, OMS, GIS, and CIS, to add value to operations.

Morgan Schaffer's CALISTO 5 and CALISTO 9
Multi-Gas On-Line Transformer Monitoring Systems
| |
Already well respected internationally for their Calisto and Calisto 2 transformer main tank monitors, Morgan Schaffer has expanded the range of Calisto monitors with two new, enhanced units:
- the Calisto 5, which detects 5 key gases, and
- the Calisto 9, which measures 7 fault gases, plus oxygen and nitrogen.
The new generation Calisto monitors are completely interchangeable to fulfill the needs of the evolving condition of your transformer and will also provide a more in-depth analysis. If a transformer has been fitted with the standard detection-based Calisto 2 unit and the transformer develops a major issue, you can now do a quick changeover to a multi-gas option for a more in-depth analysis. Eventually you could have a planned outage and repair, then return the original monitor to the transformer.
The new multi-gas Calisto systems feature a number of innovations, including continuous oil circulation with integral flow monitoring; precision thermal regulation; native support of Modbus, DNP3 and (optionally) IEC61850 communications; extensive analogue I/Os and output relays that are user configurable; CE marking; and Calisto Manager software for Calisto configuration and tracking a network of Calisto units.

Dynamic Ratings DR-E3 Transformer Monitoring, Control, and Communications System
Dynamic Ratings provides transformer monitoring, control and communication equipment for medium and large power transformers. Their continual innovation has significantly reduced the cost and complexity of comprehensive transformer monitoring.
The modular nature of the E3 transformer monitoring, control and communication system allows hardware solutions to be customized to the needs of each installation at the most economical cost. The comprehensive scope of the total product provides monitoring solutions for most any installation. A single communication connection to the Dynamic Ratings control provides both control and monitoring of the complete transformer system including cooling control, LTC control, on-line monitoring and diagnostics. In addition to the Modbus and DNP communication protocols, the product also offers a graphical user interface accessed via Internet Explorer. Connection of the monitoring system to a customer's existing Ethernet Local Area Network is much like adding a PC or printer.
Other Features Include:
ˇ Detailed Thermal Monitoring
ˇ Cooling System Monitoring
ˇ Comprehensive LTC Monitoring
ˇ Bushing Monitoring
ˇ On-line DGA & Moisture Monitoring
ˇ Status and Alarm Monitoring

Doble's Intelligent Diagnostic Devices (IDD's)
|
A family of continuous online diagnostic devices for power system apparatus
D oble's Intelligent Diagnostic Devices (IDDs) are a cost-effective online diagnostic system used to monitor electrical apparatus in the field. Each IDD is intended to be apparatus-specific and can be mounted in existing enclosures or in optional enclosures available from Doble. The IDD is easy to install and, once configured, operates continuously.
IDDs are designed to operate reliably under extreme weather conditions and electrical interference found in normal substation operations. Self-diagnostics continuously track the
