Autumn at Yiddishkayt
Sholem Aleykhem!
This fall we've been gearing up to launch our first ever, year-long calendar of arts and culture programming. Since we've been spending so much time considering the very best of contemporary Yiddish culture, we thought we'd bring you a preview of things to come by highlighting all that's exciting and innovative in traditional Jewish and klezmer music right here in Southern California.
From our very start, Yiddishkayt been presenting, producing and commissioning outstanding artists, both renowned and emerging, to celebrate the unfathomable richness and creativity of Yiddish culture. Beginning in January, we'll offer YidArts, a full season of performances celebrating the fusion of languages that created Yiddish with programs that revel in the babel of languages in and around Los Angeles. Each month we'll bring the best and most original artists and performers to inspire and nurture a deep appreciation of Jewish culture through the arts.
In addition to our own programs, Yiddishkayt is proud to be the site to find out about klezmer events around town. Our website now has the most comprehensive listings of all things klezmer. You can go directly to the L.A. Klezmer Calendar by visiting: yiddi.sh/laklezmer. Come visit us on the web, or nokh beser, come out to hear some music this month.
See you there!

P.S. A note to the Vortsman's fans: Der Vortsman became so accustomed to having days off during the Jewish New Year Festival (count 'em: 12!) that he decided to rest up until the next installment of YidBits.

 | Local favorite The Shpil plays Genghis Cohen (10/22) |
Yiddishkayt is excited to present The Shpil at Genghis Cohen on the 22nd! The Shpil debuted in February 2009 at Club Fais Do Do as one of the founding groups in The Unity Project, presenting world music events featuring diverse local artists. The Shpil is committed to making Los Angeles a more musically vibrant and fascinating place. Collecting songs from far and wide, The Shpil's repertoire ranges from authentic klezmer standards to downright obscure folk melodies to tongue-in-cheek pop covers to daring originals.
