Dear Friend of Yiddish,
Q. What do you get a famous Yiddishist for their 150th birthday? A. A symposium at UCLA, of course!
Join us this Sunday for a celebration of the Yiddish comic master, Sholem Aleichem, on the 150th anniversary of his birth. The UCLA Center for Jewish Studies has put together an incredible afternoon of speakers and performance. More info below.
Next week we are announcing details for a special khanike event on December 13. In the meantime, check out the contest below for a clue of the program and a special prize.
Both chapters of the Los Angeles Yiddish Culture Club have upcoming events this month:
On Sunday, November 15, join the LA Yiddish Culture Club and the California Institute for Yiddish Culture and Language (CIYCL) for a presentation by Yale Strom on The Sporting Life in Yiddish Culture, followed by a concert with Elizabeth Schwartz.
And on Thursday, November 19, join the Valley Chapter of the Yiddish Culture Club for an evening of Jewish Humor with noted humorist and storyteller Lou Charloff. More info on both events below.
(The Vortsman is off-duty this week but may share his wisdom later this month.)
See you on Sunday,
