Sixteen reasons why
Yiddishkayt "breaks new ground"

Yiddishkayt recognized in Slingshot 09/10

Dear Friend of Yiddish,

Last week two incredible things happened.

On a rainy night in Los Angeles, sixteen young adults gathered to form the first ever Yiddishkayt Folks-Grupe, a unique fellowship dedicated to Yiddish culture (pictured above).  And on a rainy day in New York, Yiddishkayt was recognized as one of the 50 most innovative Jewish nonprofits in America -- for the second year in a row -- in Slingshot 09/10.

Our future is bright, but we need your support so we can continue to grow.

Over the next three months, the fellows in the Yiddishkayt-Folks-Grupe will be immersed in Yiddish culture, meeting with professors and mevinim (experts) to learn about language, theater, poetry, history, literature, music and food.  Already they are enthusiastic and energetic, eager to connect with their heritage.  But we need your contribution to make the Yiddishkayt Folks-Grupe a resounding success.

Donate sixteen dollars in honor of our sixteen fellows and help introduce the next generation to the riches of Yiddish.  Your support will allow us to provide an insightful, educational, and joyful experience, and to build a population of connected young Yiddishists.

The Folks-Grupe is only one reason why Yiddishkayt has been recognized for a second year in Slingshot 09/10, an annual resource guide for Jewish innovation.  Slingshot features organizations, leaders, and programs that have taken an innovative approach to addressing age-old concerns of identity and community in Jewish life today.  Yiddishkayt made the cut this year after an extensive evaluation process overseen by several dozen foundation professionals.

Over the last fifteen years, Yiddishkayt has repeatedly ditched the beaten path to bring you huge citywide festivals, multicultural events, and groundbreaking education programs.  Our achievements have rested on the shoulders of our supporters -- join the ranks of those who make Yiddishkayt possible, year after year.

Just one dollar per fellow can help open someone's eyes to Yiddish.  Give a gift of $16 or more and share your love of Yiddish.

Thank you for your support.

P.S.  Help spread the good news to family and friends.  And consider giving just $16 to help us spread the joys of Yiddish (that's cheaper than two tickets to see A Serious Man)!
