KLEZMATICS
EXPLORING THE RICHES OF YIDDISH MUSIC, PAST AND
PRESENT
Join Lorin Sklamberg for an audio tour of the YIVO archives,
a discussion of the impact of the archives on the remarkable
Klezmer renaissance, and a performance of contemporary
Klezmatics songs influenced by rare holdings in the
archive. Followed by a reception mit a glezele vayn.
Lorin Sklamberg currently serves as the Sound Archivist of
the YIVO Institute
for Jewish Research, home to the largest
catalogue of Yiddish and Ashkenazi music in the world. Lorin
is a founding member of The Klezmatics (lead vocals/
accordion), with whom he has recorded and traveled the
world since 1986. He can be heard on some 50 cds,
including the latest album from The Klezmatics, the 2007
Grammy-nominated “Wonder Wheel” (Lyrics by Woody
Guthrie). Lorin co-founded the New York-based non-profit
organization Living Traditions and has coordinated its
premiere event, KlezKamp: The Yiddish Folk Arts Program
(the major instructional institution for klezmer musicians
worldwide) for 14 years.

The Folksbiene National Yiddish Theatre, now in its 92nd year
of continuing performance, makes its Los Angeles debut with
its critically acclaimed and standing room only New York
production of the musical revue “On Second Avenue,”
featuring the original cast including star Mike Burstyn.
While bringing to new life many of the classic songs and
scenes from the treasure trove of the Yiddish theater
repertoire, (sung in Yiddish with English supertitles), the
narrative, scenes, and many of the classic comedy routines
are performed in English, making the show accessible for all.

per week) Administrative Assistant. Specific hours, days of
week flexible.
Looking for an individual with previous office/administrative
experience, and command of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,
etc.). Familiarity with Mac, FileMaker a plus.
Salary $11-$15 per hour, depending on experience.
