Who Knew

Before you head to the drugstore for a high-priced inhaler filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They'll clear up your stuffed nose.

Achy muscles from a bout of the flu? Mix 1 tablespoon horseradish in 1 cup of olive oil. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes, then apply it as a massage oil for instant relief for aching muscles.

Sore throat? Just mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of honey and take 1 tablespoon six times a day.. The vinegar kills the bacteria.

Easy eyeglass protection... to prevent the screws in eyeglasses from loosening, apply a small drop of Clear Nail Polish to the threads of the screws before tightening them.

Smart splinter remover: Just pour a drop of Elmer's Glue-All over the splinter, let dry, and peel the dried glue off the skin. The splinter sticks to the dried glue.

Quaker Oats for fast pain relief... it's not for breakfast any more! Mix 2 cups of Quaker Oats and 1 cup of water in a bowl and warm in the microwave for 1 minute, cool slightly, and apply the mixture to your hands for soothing relief from arthritis pain.

Tomato Paste boil cure... cover the boil with Tomato Paste as a compress. The acids from the tomatoes soothe the pain and bring the boil to a head.
Balm for broken blisters... to disinfect a broken blister, dab on a few drops of Listerine, a powerful antiseptic.

S5281 JubileeAnything Else is a Compromise

The Miele S5281 Jubilee is one of Miele's nicest additions to the 2009 line of canisters. Not only beautiful, but functional too! Sealed HEPA system, the SEB217 Powerhead, direct connect telescopic wand, and a bonus of the extended, flexible crevice tool is included. All the features you want in a Miele and priced right at $849.

Extended, Flexible Crevice Tool Included! When you purchase a Miele, you are buying quality. You aren't buying a vacuum that was built to be thrown away, because it's cheaper to replace it than repair it. These vacuums are built to last. Miele is so confident in that fact, that they continue to make parts for each model for 20 years after the model has been discontinued.  Who can argue with that kind of confidence in a product. I can't, and I don't, I have a Miele and love it!

Vacuum Care

For the best carpet cleaning results, no matter which brand of vacuum cleaner you purchase, be sure to inspect it periodically to make sure it is mechanically fit.

*Keep brushes clean and replace them when worn.

*Keep vacuum hoses and attachments free of obstructions, which restrict air passage.

*Inspect the vacuum head for rough edges or bent metal that may damage your carpet.

*Inspect belts frequently to make certain they are working properly.

*Always keep a spare belt for replacement as needed.

*Follow the vacuum cleaner manufacturer's instructions, and change the vacuum bag when it becomes more than half full. With most vacuum cleaners, as the bag becomes full, soil removal efficiency is reduced. A vacuum cleaner with a half-full bag loses more than 80% of its suction.

Tidy Home-6 Things To Do Every Day

These quick and easy tasks can make your home appear tidy on a regular basis.

1. Make the Bed
Tidiness begets tidiness. A crisply made bed makes the whole room seem more orderly, which makes it less likely that you'll let other things -- such as clothes and papers -- pile up around it.

2. Manage Clutter
Whenever you leave a room; take a quick look around for anything that isn't where it should be. Pick it up and put it where it belongs. Insist that everyone in the household do the same.

3. Sort the Mail
Take a few minutes to open, read, and sort mail as soon as you bring it inside. Keep a trash bin near your sorting area for junk mail. Drop other mail into one of four in-boxes: personal correspondence, bills, catalogs, and filing.

4. Clean as You Cook
Instead of filling the sink with pots and dishes, wash them or put them in the dishwasher as you prepare a meal.

5. Wipe Up Spills While They're Fresh
Whether it's tomato sauce on the cook top or makeup on the bathroom counter, almost anything is faster and easier to remove if you attend to it immediately.

6. Sweep the Kitchen Floor
Every evening once you've finished washing up after dinner, sweep the floor. This will keep tough-to-clean dirt and grime from building up, which will make the weekly mopping much quicker.

Seven Falls, Colorado Springs CO

Seven Falls

On December 5, 1872, Nathaniel Colby homesteaded the 160 acres that included the present day Seven Falls and South Cheyenne Canyon. Apparently Colby did not anticipate the potential value of his purchase, for nine months later he sold the patent to the Colorado Springs Land Company for $1000.

Later owners realized little profit from the land until 1882 when James Hull purchased the property for $1300. Mr. Hull was a naturalist who was disturbed to note the scenic beauty of the canyon was being threatened by the felling of trees for their lumber value. Hull had already purchased 160 acres west of Seven Falls for $500 and later secured an additional 80 acres by preemption in 1885. With 400 acres including the heart of the canyon Hull became one of Colorado's earliest environmental protectors and the first owner to fully appreciate the true value of this scenic masterpiece.

Hull was also a businessman, and he understood the value of the "ranch" as it was then called. He advertised the property as a scenic resort and began to improve it by constructing a road through the canyon to the Seven Falls and building a stairway along the side of the Falls. He installed a toll gate at the foot of the canyon and proceeded to do business. Access to the Falls in those days was largely by carriages, burros and saddle horses furnished by a local entrepreneur named Hunter who paid James Hull and his sons $500 for the privilege of taking passengers to the Falls for 25 cents each. Business flourished and Seven Falls became a prominent tourist attraction.

In 1900 after Hull's sons took over the property the county assessor valued the property at $80,000 while the local newspaper, The Gazette, suggested the value at over $200,000. In 1905 the property now containing 1400 acres was purchased by C.D. Weimer for $250,000.

The Rodeway Inn and Suites Colorado Springs CO

Rodeway Inn

The Rodeway Inn and Suites in Colorado Springs is a unique little 50 room hotel.  Among the most appreciated features for most guests are the oversized seasonal pool, the park with fire pit area and the nostalgic feel of a hotel.  Initially named the Western Hills Motel it was first put into service during the heyday of the motor court in the mid 1950's.    Back during the black and white film era, visitor bureau footage of the hotel along with the Broadmoor and Pikes Peak were promotional tools to show to perspective visitors to the region.  The above mentioned qualities have been retained through the years along with another welcome feature.  The hotel has remained a family operated business.  Most recently the family at the helm is the Kenline family, John and Dona, Bill and Dreda.

Bill is the General Manager and has been in the hotel business since 1991.  John and Dona started and operated Kenline Veterinary Clinic in Canon City for 30+ years before venturing into the hotel business with Bill in 2003.  These three spend a great deal of time at the hotel being of service to guests, improving the hotel and just doing all those things that running a business require.  "We are blessed with a wonderful staff that has stuck with us for years."  "They are well versed in our operation but also know the area, restaurants and attractions well and so are an asset to the hotel and also to our customers." said Bill.

The hotel serves continental breakfast daily during the summer from 7-10 and during the off season from 6-9 am.  Off season is the time for deals while the summer is the best time to enjoy the pool and grounds.  Guests can walk to over a dozen nearby restaurants including the Edelweiss German Restaurant only a block away.  Attractions not to be missed include the aforementioned Pikes Peak, the Cog Railway, Garden of the Gods park, which is free, and the Royal Gorge Bridge.  If you are a Choice Privilege member or want to be one, you can book you room at RodewayInn.com or call 800-4-choice and they are giving an additional 1,000 points through June 1 as an additional reward for staying.
