S2180 Miele TitanAnything Else is a Compromise

The NEW Miele S2 Series is a big hit for 2009. The S2 offers a more compact and lighter version of the other canisters with all of the best features that they have. For example, HEPA filtration, Direct Connect, and telescopic wands. Best of all is the price. 3 models to choose from that range from $299 to $599.

When you purchase a Miele, you are buying quality. You aren't buying a vacuum that was built to be thrown away, because it's cheaper to replace it than repair it. These vacuums are built to last. Miele is so confident in that fact, that they continue to make parts for each model for 20 years after the model has been discontinued.  Who can argue with that kind of confidence in a product. I can't, and I don't, I have a Miele and love it!

How to Clean Your House in a Hurry
Company's coming, and your house is a mess? No worries. Follow this advice from Julie Edelman, author of The Accidental Housewife, and you'll have a neat, party-ready place in no time.
Get out the baskets
It's OK to hide stuff in plain sight (i.e., magazines in a basket near the sofa, remote controls in a basket near the coffee table). It's a trick Edelman calls "reshifting," and it'll not only make your home look organized but also ensure that you'll be able to find key things later.
Pretty up the clutter
Got junk everywhere? Make it a decorative element-stack books horizontally and vertically on tables and floor (very bookish London flat!), put cooking utensils in a cheerful water pitcher, fan out magazines in a fun way on the coffee table.
Don't forget about the bathroom
Pull out disinfectant wipes and quickly clean the key surfaces. For the toilet bowl, drop a couple of effervescent tablets (like Alka-Seltzer) or pour a can of soda into the bowl; let it fizz for 20 minutes, then flush.
Suck it up.
Sorry, but vacuuming is a must. Just run the vacuum quickly through the house. It'll pick up little pieces of paper and dust and make your place look more polished instantly.

Holiday Pet Tips

You can help keep pets safe during the holiday season by following the tips below.

* Many holiday plants can lead to health problems in dogs and cats. Among the plants to keep out of reach are holly, mistletoe, poinsettias and lilies.
* Snow globes often contain antifreeze, which is poisonous to pets.
* Pine needles, when ingested, can puncture holes in a pet's intestine.
* Tape down or cover electrical cords to help avoid shocks, burns or other serious injuries. Unplug lights when you are not home.
* Do not let pets drink the holiday tree water. Some may contain fertilizers, and stagnant tree water can harbor bacteria.
Very important: do not put aspirin in the water (some folks do this thinking it will keep the tree or plant more vigorous). If a pet ingests the aspirin-laced water, his health or even life can be at risk.
* Pets, particularly cats, can be tempted to eat tinsel, which can block the intestines. Hang tinsel high and securely to keep it out of reach of pets.
* Keep other ornaments out of reach of pets. Ingestion of any ornament, which might look like toys to pets, can result in life-threatening emergencies. Even ornaments made from dried food can lead to ailments. And remember, shards from broken glass ornaments can injure paws, mouths and other parts of the body.
* Keep candles on high shelves. Use fireplace screens to avoid burns.
* Reduce stress by keeping feeding and exercise on a regular schedule.
* When pets are stressed by holiday activity or during travel, they may require more water. Dogs typically pant more when they feel stressed. Keep fresh water available for them to drink.

Christmas Mountain-Salida CO

Creating the "world's largest Christmas tree" on Tenderfoot Mountain was no small feat, but the tradition begun in 1989 continues with visitors and locals anticipating lighting of Christmas Mountain U.S.A.

It is assembled in mid-November while the weather is usually remains fairly comfortable for stringing thousands of lights on a mountain side. The outline of the tree on the face of Tenderfoot Mountain is approximately 750 feet tall. There are about 5,000 bulbs in five colors - red, clear and painted bulbs; white, clear and orange. The electric bill averages from $475 to $510.

Christmas Mountain U.S.A. is lighted on Friday after Thanksgiving and is lit from 5:30-10:30 p.m. until Jan.

The traditional Salida Parade of Lights was added to the festivities in 1990. Initially it was a stationary parade with "floats" placed along F Street. Later, it became a moving parade, with lighted floats portraying different themes each year. Santa Claus has always been the last entry in the parade and it's his job to flip the switch illuminating Christmas Mountain for the season.

Holiday Park became part of festivities in 1998 when Dea Maltby and her sister, Sandy Lyles, erected numerous artificial trees and decorations on the grounds the Salida SteamPlant in memory of their mother. After a few years, that project became too much work for the two sisters and a handful of volunteers. It was moved to Riverside Park where volunteers erect trees lining both sides of the angle walking path in the park.
